1978 MGB idle increases while sitting or makes a weird noise when trying to start?

Possible a vacuum hose has deteriorated over time. Get some brake cleaner and spray around your cacuum hoses and carburetor base. If the idle drops to normal briefly that particular spot is the culprit.
