Should I date my best guy friend?

Ok so I've known this guy for eight years and he's been my best friend for eight years. I think about him ALL the time and we spend hours texting each other. He makes me laugh and he's everything I want in a boyfriend. My friends have said for years that we should go out but we have just raimained super close friends. I can tell him anything and I do and he does the same to me. I keep my feelings a secret to him because I dont want to ruin this perfect friendship we have shared for such long time. A few days ago i realized how MADLY in love I am with him. I mean I dream about him and think and think and think about him constantly and everything I do and say is based around him. For example in the morning when I pick out what I wear I put on his favorite color just so he will like how I look. I know he's not so shallow that he wouldn't date me just because I don't wear his favorite color but I just like him soooooo much. I just don't know what to do about him! Should I date him or we just we best friends?
