What does "A Late Walk" by Robert Frost mean?

the poem, A Late Walk" by Robert Frost, refers to an early morning walk of a farm boy or a farmhand who works on a farm. He walks near a new mowed field of hay where the stalks lay very near to the path he has used to get to the farm's garden area. He finds weeds and a tree that is shedding its leaves in the fall weather. At the end of his walk, he comes across a withering blue flower, probably an aster, that in his mind he carries back to his friend, but it will never happen. Good luck
