What is causing a sound in my 2003 chevy malibu?

Recently my malibu (2003, 89k miles) has started to make an almost electrical whirring sound when I turn it on and when I accelerate. It has also started to make a grinding sound when I pull out of the driveway, but only in the mornings, the rest of the day it sounds fine (minus the whirring). Any help with this would be awesome!
